Marcus Rashford Transfer Row Sparks New Criticism

Marcus Rashford transfer talk shows no sign of easing after former Manchester United full-back Paul Parker claimed the striker’s off-field entourage is putting potential buyers off. Speaking on British radio, Parker likened the 26-year-old’s support team to “a boxer’s circus”, insisting clubs fear the baggage that now follows him.

Why the Marcus Rashford transfer market is quiet

Parker argues that Rashford’s form dip and sizeable £325,000-a-week contract are only half the story. According to the ex-defender, the England international’s advisers wield too much influence, creating an image problem that makes recruitment chiefs nervous. “They see commercial deals, social media noise and a big entourage — not just a goal scorer,” Parker said.

United’s role in the stalemate

The criticism extended to Old Trafford’s hierarchy. Parker believes United handed Rashford “lottery-winner wages” too soon, making any sale difficult in a cautious market. The forward still has three years left on the contract he signed last summer, meaning United would demand a substantial fee on top of those wages.

Possible exit routes

Paris Saint-Germain have long been linked, yet French reports suggest the Ligue 1 champions are prioritising younger, cheaper forwards. In the Premier League, Arsenal and Chelsea have both cooled interest, while Saudi Pro League sides are reluctant to match Rashford’s commercial expectations.

Ten Hag’s stance

Manager Erik ten Hag maintains the academy graduate remains “part of the project”, but his use of Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Højlund last season hints at a changing hierarchy up front. Unless Rashford rediscovers his 2022-23 scoring touch, the stand-off looks set to continue.

Opinion: Rashford is still one of England’s most naturally gifted forwards, yet image can matter as much as output in modern football. Trimming the entourage and letting performances speak might be his quickest route back to elite form — and to the transfer market he reportedly craves.
